Your Best Speech Ever?
We always want our next speech to be the best ever, don't we?
Then why do we worry so much? Because the challenge we face is that virtually no one is teaching us how to give a great talk. Talk! Please note there is a difference. A talk is shared while a speech is delivered. Make your next speech your best speech ever.
If you are giving a speech to your board of advisors or to a college commencement address then you are delivering the information that is also being handed out for reference material. That is a speech. Delivering specific data maybe for people to reference.
But when you give a talk, in front of a group, to a meeting of your peers or even to your leadership you want more than anything to not be boring!
We could go over all of the fears we must face as presenters and all of the obstacles we need to overcome but the most important thing in any of these areas is to not be boring! OMG! We have all sat through boring! No one tells them they are boring. No shares how they can get better. They don't even know they were nearing critical life ending stages of boring!
Don't you wonder why? Why does it happen that almost every single speaker never takes a lesson, a course, to try to get better? Because you, as well as all of your friends say tings like, good job! Nice talk. You were great today.
No one ever shares how much you need to improve your speaking. And, you never record yourself speaking for the purpose of watching it back to see if you were good or not. Am I right?
When was the last time you watched a professional recording of yourself giving a talk? Should I say, never?
So what should you do? Let's look at it differently, shall we?
If your boss suddenly entered you in a professional putting contest, would you hire a putting coach to help you be the best putter you could be?
How about if they said, you will have to make one piece of origami? Write one great news article for the company newsletter? Design the cover of the next company magazine?
Would you hire someone to help make it the best ever?
And that is exactly what each and every talk/speech/presentation you give is all about. You should be scared to death that you will be boring. That you won't hold the attention of your people. That someone wouldn't pay attention to what you have to say.
After all, isn't that your job? To get that information out to your people? To convey the right message in a manner that they will want to listen?
But most of us think we are great and allow ourselves to be boring instead of stepping up and learning how to give a great presentations.
Would you like your next talk to be the best speech ever?
Then hire a speaking coach to help you create a talk that will wow your people and actually have them genuinely saying, that was a great presentation! Thank you so much!
And then all week long saying, what, have you been practicing!!
